Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 6th September, 1916, and sailing 19th December, served at No. 3 Australian General Hospital, Abbeville, from 6th August, 1917, till 29th September. Then was with 7th Australian Field Ambulance, as R.M.O. 25th Battn. in October and November, and of 27th from 19th November until after the Armistice, being in the Messines sector during the winter of 1917-18 and then on the Somme from Corbie to Montbrehain. Returned in January, 1920, after three months' non-military employment. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at The Scots College. * In an attack east of Mont St. Quentin on 2nd September, 1918, he pushed forward behind the first waves, attending the wounded under heavy artillery and machine gun fire. Later, he established a forward post, and through his gallantry and his untiring exertion he saved many lives.
