Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., M.B., Ch.M. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 20th May, 1915, served for a time on the hospital ship Karoola and then joined 2nd A.L.H. Field Ambulance at Gallipoli 9th December. Transferring to 1st A.F.Amb. in Egypt n th January, 1916, and crossing with it to France, became R.M.O. 1st Battn. from 10th June to 21st September and was also for short periods with 1st Divisional Ammunition Column in 1916 and No. 3 Convalescent Station in 1917. Service included Pozieres, Somme, Hindenburg Line, Bullecourt and Ypres. Promoted major, 20th June, 1917. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Killed in Action, Passchendaele, 4th October, 1917. Commemorated in Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Early education at Sydney High School. * He showed an absolute disregard of danger, and set a splendid example to his stretcher-bearers, working with them over ground continuously swept by heavy fire. He worked for six consecutive weeks in a forward area in charge of an advanced dressing station.
