Book of Remembrance entry

M.C., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli, France and England. Enlisting 1st May, 1915, and sailing with No. 3 Australian General Hospital, remained with it in Egypt and Lemnos. Joining 2nd Australian Field Ambulance 20th March, 1916, was at No. 1 A.G.H., Rouen, from 16th June to 15th August, and then R.M.O. 21st and 24th Battns. on Somme and Hindenburg Line, where wounded 20th March, 1917. At No. 2 A.G.H., Wimereux, from 27th March, 1918, being R.M.O. 42nd Battn. from May to August, when transferred to No. 2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, serving until demobilisation. Promoted major, 24th April, 1917. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Brisbane Grammar School. Later at St. Andrew''s College. * "He attended a large number of wounded at the aid post under heavy fire, and contunued at work after being wounded himself in two places."—London Gazette, 26th April, 1917.
