Book of Remembrance entry

D.S.O., M.C., M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.P. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt and France. Enlisting 1st October, 1915, and sailing 23rd November with 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, was with it on Suez Canal and in France until 4th January, 1917, then becoming R.M.O. 48th Battn. and serving in Flers, Bullecourt, Messines and Ypres sectors. Joined 12th Australian Field Ambulance 8th November and was with it until 31st August, when appointed D.A.D.M.S. Australian Army Corps H.Q., remaining there until demobilisation. Promoted major, 23rd January, 1918. Awarded D.S.O. 25th May, 1918, for work in Dernancourt sector in April, personally invested by General Birdwood; also M.C. 18th January, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches. Parkinson Prizeman and Walter and Eliza Hall Travelling Fellow. Early education at Manly Public and Fort St. High Schools.
